Good old fashioned weekend update

Last Friday was bittersweet. Last day at the office. I kind of checked my email, packed up a few things, and said goodbye. It felt pretty anti-climactic, but after the worry of the last few weeks, it felt great to be free, and sad to think that it really is over.

Kh, D, and I went to Taqueria San Jose on Mission and 24th. The burrito was, sadly, not that delicious. I remember it being better. But most importantly, it's right next to The Phone Booth, where they pour a mean strong drink. We browsed the jukebox and had our drinks bought by a friendly but somewhat rowdy crowd of Hispanic gentlemen who'd taken up residence at the pool table. We were somewhat subdued--all the indignant anger we'd felt earlier kind of melted away into a sad resignation that was well tempered by the booze and soothing jams. It had been a long time since I'd been to the Phone Booth but the bartender still remembered my face.

The night got better from there when Kh & I met up later at The Independent for the Fleet Foxes show. They were great, musically, but the crowd was kind of crowded and Marina-ish, and the band was kind of snobby and took a long time between songs, which their style of music doesn't really favor, which turned me off a bit. I definitely felt like we were witnessing the beginnings of a potential jam band that hadn't yet lived up to their future yet. Or something. But it was free and I'd been really digging their record lately, so it was nice.

The next day, Saturday, I wanted to be at the beach in a music video that my friends Lemonade were making, but I had already committed to going to the Treasure Island Music Festival with Gigi and didn't want to be late or bail. We ended up getting there kind of late anyway but got there in time to enjoy the view, watch Goldfrapp (really good, who knew), CSS, TV on the Radio (who was great) and Justice, whose set began with their signature stacks of Marshall gear and the glowing cross as well as something or someone shooting out little glow sticks from the middle of the crowd. There was a lot of energy and reminded me of why I like San Francisco when it's just right. It's a beautiful place full of beautiful people who don't take themselves too seriously but know better than to hang out in places or with people who won't get it. It was a relatively small festival but really well done and the barbequed chicken was pretty good too. Made me feel good and super positive. It was nice speaking french all day with Gigi and her Parisian childhood friend/facebook friend, and hanging out with the crazy kids on a pink blanket all day.

Sunday was, despite great plans to party,--fasting, chilling and sweet sushi dinner with Seth at Hide's Amasia a neighborhood spot, and then about four hours of cuddling and reading Persepolis. A weekend worth sharing, I think.

Next weekend: BIG SUR!
